Glasser – Ring

  • by

What’s so good?

Glasser, a.k.a. Cameron Mesirow, is relatively new to the scene — her debut EP  Apply came out only last year — but her music sounds much more developed than most artists typically do at this point in their career. Her album, a piece of music way larger than the sum of its parts, incorporates intricate arrangements, brooding synths, and sophisticated vocals, weaving a story larger than any individual single can tell.

For a taste, visit  the opening track “Apply.” You’ll hear an echoing, percussive stomp juxtaposed against floating and ethereal vocals. At many moments,  like on the tune “Mirrorage,” all the layers become stripped away and slowly build, with the emphasis placed on her voice as she sings about love and lost trust.

Ring, out now on True Panther Sounds, is right up there with other must-haves of the season in that dark, witchy vein like oOoOO, Deerhunter, Warpaint, and Salem.  She’s is on tour now, playing a few dates at CMJ before heading west.
