Sounds like: Baths, Chad Valley
A highly anticipated debut for the electronic space in 2011 comes courtesy of bedroom producer Com Truise.
While pioneering at the time, the traditional forms of IDM, glitch, and synth-pop have become seemingly derivative as an overwhelming amount of producers use the form as a template for their sound. A new chapter has been long overdue, and part of the story continues in 2011 with a new breed of artists who incorporate the sounds we grew up on – alongside inspirations of styles from other genres we’ve seen since.
Com Truise moves the needle forward with raw, beat-driven drum machine grooves underlying a thick layer of ambiance; controlled, tight-rope walking synths topped with a sprinkling of warm italo discotheque. His Facebook page describes the sound as “electronic, slow-motion funk, synthwave, tape,” calling to mind an algorithm-based Chromeo or lo-fi, slowed-down version of Dam Funk.
The Princeton, NJ producer has a string of remixes under his belt for the likes of Neon Indian and Twin Shadow. The single “Cyanide Sisters” is available now on the compilation We’ll Never Stop Living This Way: A Ghostly Primer.
The EP Cyanide Sisters is available for free on Com Truise’s website.
