Are Plastic Water Bottles Finished?

  • by

I practice yoga, running, and cycling several times a week (mainly to stay sane). For my yoga practice, I typically visit the TruYoga studios because it’s convenient – they’re downstairs from my office – and the roster of rotating teachers is incredible. Lately, I’ve been branching out a bit by taking advantage of Groupons and other deals in an effort to try new styles and mix it up a bit.

I noticed in tonight’s class over at Core Power Yoga that the studio offered bottled water to drink – but it was in glass containers, not plastic. It’s such a simple idea that makes so much sense. We already know that plastic bottles are not only toxic but wasteful.  It was great to see a little system in place where glass bottles were implemented. There was definitely some style happening there, too!

It brought to mind someone I see every now and then around the office who carries a de-labeled Snapple or Sobe bottle with him, reusing the bottle and replacing the contents with water. I alternate between a Kleen Kanteen and Waterbox, both of which I highly recommend. If we could get grocery chains and other outposts on board with a system to fill our reusable containers, it would be a great way to cut down on waste and toxins.

Does anyone know of a great organization who’s already out to do this?

Who knows – maybe in the future, we’ll look back on how wasteful we all were to spend money on a container filled with water – then throw the bottle away.

(An afterthought – I was half-tempted to name this post “No More Plastic Bottles!” And include some crazy photo of Faye Dunway, but then came to my senses. Or, not? would that have been better?  Le Shrug!)
