Last night I attended a benefit for The Global Poverty Project, an organization campaigning to eradicate extreme poverty.
Today wraps their 5-day campaign called Live Below The Line, where thousands of people across the U.S. spent just $1.50 per day on food (which, theoretically you could challenge yourself to at any time). The initiative brought the issue of extreme poverty to the attention of households and workplaces, while generating aid and creating awareness for the 1.4 billion people around the world living below the extreme poverty line.
The 1.4 billion number blew my mind. It also got me thinking about what we can do on a micro level to waste and want less.
The event, held at Surfas in Culver City, gave us an opportunity to learn more about the Australian-based organization. Celebrity chef Jesse Brune (Private Chefs of Beverly Hills) was also in the house, demonstrating how to cook a meal that comes in under $1.50.
