The #Trust30 Day Challenge – Day 7

  • by

“Next to Resistance, rational thought is the artist or entrepreneurs worst enemy. Bad things happen when we employ rational thought, because rational thought comes from the ego. Instead, we want to work from the Self, that is, from instinct and intuition, from the unconscious.

A child has no trouble believing the unbelievable, nor does the genius or the madman. Its only you and I, with our big brains and our tiny hearts, who doubt and overthink and hesitate.” – Steven Pressfield, Do the Work

The idea of “being realistic” holds all of us back. From starting a business or quitting a job to dating someone who may not be our type or moving to a new place – getting “real” often means putting your dreams on hold.

Today, let’s take a step away from rational thought and dare to be bold. What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to accomplish but have been afraid to pursue? Write it down. Also write down the obstacles in your way of reaching your goal. Finally, write down a tangible plan to overcome each obstacle.

The only thing left is to, you know, actually go make it happen. What are you waiting for?

(Author: Matt Cheuvront)

I’ve always wanted to write a book. I’ve started the beginnings of it by carving out chapters and getting pages down. In terms of content, I figure that I’m about 20% of the way. The book is non-fiction and at some point I’d like to write a fiction piece, too.

The biggest obstacle is making time to work on it for uninterrupted stretches of time on end.  I feel that I need to be spending my time researching, speaking with experts & editors, and taking the steps necessary for developing it correctly. With everything else I’m doing this is proving difficult.

My plan is to prioritize. I hack on chapters for about 30 minutes a night, but that’s not enough. I need to give myself an entire weekend – one in which I’m completely rested and energized – to make it happen.  Maybe even 6 hours spread out over Saturday and Sunday to start. The problem is, by the time the weekend comes around I’m either fried or traveling somewhere. Usually, both.

What am I waiting for? I’m waiting for the moment when I have the magical ability to focus for hours on end. Maybe this will come with discipline, practice, and better coffee.
