Life wastes itself while we are preparing to live. – Ralph Waldo Emerson
If you had one week left to live, would you still be doing what you’re doing now? In what areas of your life are you preparing to live? Take them off your To Do list and add them to a To Stop list. Resolve to only do what makes you come alive.
Bonus: How can your goals improve the present and not keep you in a perpetual “always something better” spiral?

If I had one week left to live, I’d continue to write, do interviews, and share music. Except I’d do it harder. I’d gather more content. I’d try for a video segment of my show instead of audio. And I’d write long and hard, thinking about what I can best articulate about my experiences here on Planet Earth to share with others after I’m gone.
I’d make an effort to connect more dots between people and organizations. I’d volunteer.
And I’d travel. I’d go home to spend my final days with family.
But most of all, I’d work on my contribution. I don’t know what it is and I’m still hell-bent on figuring it out.
More input produces more output. And the more output produces more opportunities and room for improvement. And those improvements can lead to the creation of craft.
My TO STOP list is the (now former) 20-something Los Angeleno glee. It was fun, it was fleeting, it was something I thought was real but was in fact, just really fun. I think my bigger contribution is the writing, creating, reflecting, and questioning aspect of my work. My goals improve the present when I live in this space as much as I can.
