You have to work for someone you respect.
And leaders need to be willing – and able – to step into that role.
It won’t work otherwise, especially if you want to keep good people around.
They have other options.
For previous generations managing through fear and bullying actually worked.
But not for us.
Our generation is autonomous in many ways, and we view work differently. We’re eager to contribute to something more than just a job. We want to change things.
But we know that we can’t do it alone.
And we’re willing to put in more time –and do whatever it takes to get there.
But many of our leaders in this startup culture aren’t properly trained on how to manage.
They want the prestige of a founding role without the guts to hire people smarter than them, build culture, and maintain it.
That’s the hard work.
And employees want something to believe. And to love.
Full stop.
